The eBraille project by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is an initiative to fulfill social obligations by assisting the visually impaired and blind in learning the Al-Quran. It is based on the notion of community service rather than for profit purposes.
Working together with the Ministry of Women, Family, and Societal Development (KPWKM), four (4) Braille Al-Quran Learning Centers will be established; 2 in Kuala Lumpur, 1 in Penang, and 1 in Sabah.
The eBraille project is also collaborating with the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ) and the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) in establishing another two (2) learning centers, 1 in Johor and 1 in Terengganu. The first Braille Al-Quran Learning Center to be launched is at the Malaysian Muslim Association for the Visually Impaired (PERTIS), followed by the Johor Bahru Princess Elizabeth Religious School.
Each center will be equipped with 11 eBraille Panels (1 for the teacher and 10 for the students).
Donations are highly welcomed for the distribution of the eBraille Al-Quran to those within this community. Help the blind and visually impaired in experiencing the beauty of the Al-Quran, and henceforth bringing them closer to the Almighty Allah. The basic reading module for Braille Al-Quran is also provided in the form of Iqra’ eBraille. More reading materials will be published to be used with the eBraille Panel for the benefit of the visually impaired and blind community. These include religious school books, dictionary, etc. Funds to ensure that more reading materials can be made available for the use of those visually impaired and blind are very much appreciated.
This project is not only for visually impaired and blind individuals to understand and appreciate the Al-Quran, but also improve the teaching and learning methods of Braille al-Quran. Collaborations and donations for the development and improvement of this project from inside and outside the country are very much encouraged. There is a great need for funds to help the low income visually impaired and blind in possessing their own eBraille Al-Quran. The cost for each eBraille Al-Quran is approximately €3552 (EUR).
